My house is officially ready for Christmas! I absolutely love this time of year! Glenn and I went to Home Depot over this past weekend to pick up our Christmas tree. They always have great prices unlike the more expensive Christmas tree ‘farm’ tents. Growing up my parents always got real Frazier Fur Christmas trees. Not to say anything against fake trees, but I just love the smell of a real tree in your living room. As we do every year, Glenn got it settled in the stand and into the house and then I got onto the decorating. I put on some Jimmy Buffett Holiday on Pandora, poured myself a glass of rumchata (a great winter holiday-themed drink), and got to decorating. Pretzel became mesmerized with the lights, not quite sure what to think of them while Savannah drank water from the stand. It’s quite comical watching them watch me decorate the tree.
Glenn and Hunter have a couple of camouflage stockings (so very Glenn) and I got mine at Target last year with my initial knitted into it. Growing up, our pets always had their own stockings as well. Whether it was the dogs or one of the cats, or even my gerbils when I was much younger, they all had stockings (even filled with gifts come Christmas morning). Surrounding Hunter’s stocking is Savannah’s and little Pretzel’s.
Above the television sits a small statue of 4 reindeer that I picked up from Marshall’s last year, as well as a Christmas book and one of my favorite pieces, the Santa mug that my mother had given me last year from one of their old ‘x-mas’ boxes. The book was a gift from my uncle a few years ago. It is John Grisham’s, Skipping Christmas. I admit I haven’t read it yet but I promise to read it this month as it goes along with the Christmas spirit.
When all was said and done, I sat back on my couch and took in the twinkling glow from the beautifully lit tree and this weekend I get to do this all over again at my Mom and Dad’s house. Have I mentioned that I just love this time of year??
On that note, Helene and Tay have started a new holiday hashtag, #MyHolidaySpark. They will be reposting their favorite pictures on their blogs and tossing in some holiday gifts. Remember to use the hashtag and tag them (@heleneinbetween and @thedailytay) in your pictures to make sure they see them!
