Let’s take a few minutes to talk about my love for this season. For one, the sweltering summer heat is finally starting to cool off. Actually that’s probably my favorite part of it! It comes one morning usually towards the middle of November that you walk outside and you can just smell it.. Summer is officially over. I know, I know, it really ends in September but not in Miami.
- There is a sudden drop in humidity (goodbye to the daily 90%) and viola, good hair days! One of my favorite ways to style my hair is to blow it out smooth with a large round brush and then to wave/curl it with my Hot Tools curling wand. I absolutely love this looks! I love it so much, it is all we used to style my hair for my wedding. With the lower humidity levels, the look will actually last all day without falling or going limp on you.
- Second, it’s all about the pumpkin. Literally pumpkin everything! You’ve got all of your pumpkin flavored coffee’s coming out with every different kind of pumpkin flavored creamers you can think of (I know I’m totally coming off as a ‘basic’ white girl here, lol). Even better, the beers! My husband and I share a love of beer. Years ago you would only ever see me with a bud light in my hand (which now would be an extreme rarity). Nowadays (thanks to the hubby), it’s all about craft beer! This time of year you can find me walking down the beer aisle at our local Total Wine store creating 6 packs of pumpkin flavored or fall based seasonal beers. My husband doesn’t share my love for anything pumpkin flavored which just means more for me!
- Fall styled outfits. I love me a cute flannel look with leggings and some knee high boots. To the Miami ladies who start to pull out the uggs at this point, I am sorry, I will never understand you. Sure, I own a pair of uggs, but i’ve only worn them during the winter months once on a Chicago trip and once on a North Carolina trip with negative temps. You guys just look ridiculous. Last year I purchased 2 super cute quarter sleeved plaid shirts from Marshalls. They are sheer but definitely pass as fall/winter based styles and work for the warmer fall/winter days down here.
- Makeup and Manicures.. During the summer months I tend to do cooler tones for my makeup and nailpolishes. The lighter shadows and pinker cheeks now change to smokier eyes and more bronze based cheeks (let’s match the fall leaves we don’t have). My usual pink lip colors will get traded in for more reds. For my nails I tend to do lighter colors all spring and summer. The whites and pale pinks are my thing (even though they never last with all the daily haircolor I deal with). But with the cooler months come the darker and deeper colors. It’s a super oldie but Linkin Park After Dark will always be one of my favorite OPI’s!
- The best holidays are a-coming! Growing up Thanksgiving Day was probably my least favorite holiday (although thanks to my Mom, my sister and I look forward to watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade every year). Sadly enough I found a lot of the food that went along with this holiday to be just kind of boring (please don’t shoot me). In more recent years we’ve been having smaller gatherings with just my husband, Hunter, my parents, my sister, and her boyfriend, Jose, and I and we’ve been doing our own thing and coming up with amazing, different Thanksgiving type recipes (thank you Pinterest). My sister and Jose will make an awesome fall based sangria (I’ll have to share this one with you sometime) and we just hang out and have a blast together. The holiday is followed by Black Friday where we avoid the malls altogether and usually take a drive down through the Florida Keys for some side street shopping, drinks, and amazing food at our favorite restaurant, Lazy Days. Ok, enough rambling.. Is it Christmas yet?!?
